Leverick Homes Receives 2025 Preservation Award for “The Castle” Project

Preservation Award Invitation

The Metro Historical Commission held its annual 2025 Preservation Awards at the Nashville Public Library on May 22, 2025. The Historical Commission holds the Preservation Awards program annually to celebrate National Preservation Month, which is sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and observed nationally each year in May. These awards honor winners, representing the categories of Residential, Commercial, Educational/Institutional, and Infill architecture.

Leverick Homes was given a Preservation Award for its work on “The Castle” project, a stone home in the Lockland Springs neighborhood, recognized for its turret. This project was a wild idea between Gordon Wynn and Jeremiah Pierce to restore this east Nashville masterpiece. Along with Josh Johnson Architecture and Loree Harris, Interior Designer, the home now boasts its former glory in the front with an entire new section on the rear. At over 5,000 sf of livable space and over 7,000 sf overall, this was not a simple project.

The first order of business on this project was stopping water and moisture from entering the basement. Then, extensive framing details had to be addressed to ensure this home would be here for another 100 years. The team worked to restore all of the original windows in the front section with new ropes, glass, putty glazing, and historically accurate hardware. The new section was received new windows with grid patterns to match the original. The front section aims to pay homage to the original structure by maintaining as much of its character as possible. The new addition houses the common areas (kitchen, living room, and pantry) as well as the owners suite on the 3rd level and a large garage with elevator access on the basement level.
